The Foundation for the Development of Agusanons, Inc. (FDAI) participates in 2019 Seal of Good Local Governance Assessment (SGLG) involving City/Municipal Local Government Units (C/MLGUs) of Agusan del Norte Province. As a member of the SGLG Regional Assessment Team, FDAI has the opportunity to know firsthand how C/MLGUs practice good governance or how they fall short of expectations.

As has been known, SGLG is a badge of excellence for well-managed LGUs granted by the Department of the Interior and the Local Government (DILG). For 2019 SGLG, DILG ordains that C/MLGUs must deliver on seven (7) aspects of local governance to qualify, namely:

  • Financial Administration;
  • Disaster Preparedness;
  • Social Protection;
  • Peace and Order;
  • Business Friendliness and Competitiveness;
  • Environmental Protection; and
  • Tourism, Culture, and the Arts.

As designed, SGLG is awarded to LGUs who excel in the above-enumerated aspects in local governance. Hence, SGLG awardees are supposed to manifest the principles of transparency, accountability, good governance, and excellent performance that separate them from non-awardees.

SGLG has been a big deal for LGUs because those who qualify get SGLG markers that they can proudly display in their provincial, city, or municipal halls. On top of this, the recognized LGUs also get a share of theย Performance Challenge Fund, a multimillion-peso incentive for local development projects.

The Regional Assessment Team to which FDAI belongs counts Agusan del Sur Department of Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Arleen Ann R. Sanchez and Municipal Local Government Operations Officer V Luth Edmund M. Apresto as members. Director Sanchez is the Team Leader.
